The day started off with a shoot out in Niagara Region Minor Football Atom football action with the Atom Longhorns facing off against the St. Catharines Atom Seahawks.
It was an exciting game from the start with the score close from begining to the end, however for the Seahawks they came up just short in a 39-37 loss to the Longhorns.
Calem Smith lead the Longhorns with 3 touchdowns (TDS) and two extra points. Jordan Payne added 2 TDS and 1 xp. Rounding out the scoring for the Horns Cameron Macrae called his own number for his first TD of the season.
The Seahawks scoring goes as follows, Dhari Williams with 3 TDS and 1 XP. Josh Savoie with 2 TDS and Alex Caizza with 1 TD.
Next up Longhorns (1-1) face off against the Steelers (0-2) at West Niagara (Smithville Leisureplex. St. Catharines (1-1) will host the Niagara Falls Lions (2-0) at Kiwanis Field
Peewee Longhorns faced off against St. Catharines Peewee Seahawks
This was a defencive struggle from the start to the finish with only 33 total points scored between both teams. St. Catharines (0-2) Opened the scoring with a 40 yard TD Pass from Wyatt Brown to Liam Mcavoy for thier first TD of the season Cameron Newbold added an XP to make it 7-0. Fort Erie came back in the second quarter with a score of their own by Grant Spada, who eventually found the endzone twice and added 1 point convert. Wyatt Brown added a rushing TD for St. Catharines to give them the short 13-12 lead and Colin Larosh rumbled in on the reverse for the what would be game winning TD.
Both Defenses played hard turning the ball over and holding both offenses at bay for most of the game.
Next Up Longhorns (1-1) travel to West Niagara Southward Community Park in a Friday Night under the lights event to face off against the West Niagara Steelsers (1-0) and the Seahawks (0-2) are home to the Niagara Falls Argos (0-1) at Kiwanis Field.
Wrapping up the Longhorn sweep were the Bantam Horns and the Seahawks in an old fastioned shootout. The Bantam Longhorns outlasted the Seahawks 56-44 to improve to (1-1)
Scoting for the Longhorns Steven Phillips lead the team with 3 TDS and 1 XP, Kaiden Craft added 3 TDS of his own, Jackson Louis added a TD of his own. Kody Macrae finished with a TD and 6 XP.
